I think I just burned my tea kettle by boiling water in it too long. Is that even possible? It was bright red for the last 7 years and now it's all dark red and smells funny. I didn't even boil the water for that long. What the heck??

The sole purpose of the tea kettle is to be able to boil water in it and make tea. You'd think it could stand up to the task. Maybe it had gotten old? One too many boilings?
